Feeding & Care

Feeding Guides & Food Transitioning

Wellness begins in the bowl.

Thank you for choosing Betty & Butch.

What they eat shapes digestion, skin, energy, joints, and long term health. Every product is chosen with this in mind. Your order was prepared with the same care we give to every bowl.

FEEDING GUIDE

Feeding is not about perfection. It is about consistency, balance, and observation.

Use the feeding guide on each product as your starting point. Guides are based on weight and life stage. Adjust slowly based on body condition, energy levels, and stool quality.

If ribs are difficult to feel, reduce slightly.
If ribs are very visible, increase slightly.

Fresh water should always be available.

TRANSITIONING FOOD

Changing food too quickly upsets digestion. A slow transition supports gut health.

Days 1 to 3
75 percent current food
25 percent new food

Days 4 to 6
50 percent current food
50 percent new food

Days 7 to 9
25 percent current food
75 percent new food

Day 10
100 percent new food

Loose stools mean the transition is moving too fast. Pause. Step back one stage. Hold for two days before continuing.

INGREDIENTS & QUALITY

Every ingredient has a purpose.

Clearly named proteins.
Functional vegetables and botanicals.
No artificial colours or flavours.
No unnecessary fillers.

If an ingredient does not support health, it does not belong in the bowl.

TREATS & CHEWS

Read before feeding.

Treats are food. They count. Overfeeding treats is one of the fastest ways to cause digestive upset or weight gain.

Always check each product page for exact feeding guidance.

IMPORTANT TREAT FEEDING NOTICE

Treats and chews vary widely in size, richness, and suitability.

Feeding amounts are listed on each individual product page.
Age suitability is product specific.
Some treats are not suitable for puppies or seniors.
Some chews require supervision.

Do not assume all treats are the same.

AGE & LIFE STAGE

Puppies
Puppies have developing teeth and digestion. Only feed treats clearly marked as suitable for puppies. Avoid hard chews unless stated otherwise.

Adults
Most treats are suitable when fed in moderation. Adjust main meals to account for treat intake.

Seniors
Choose softer options and appropriate sizes. Very hard chews are often unsuitable.

If you are unsure, do not feed.

CHEWS & SUPERVISION

Long lasting chews must always be fed under supervision.

Remove small pieces.
Prevent gulping.
Discard chews once they become small enough to swallow whole.

Fresh water must always be available.

PORTION CONTROL

Treats should make up no more than 10 percent of daily intake.

If treats are fed regularly, reduce main meals slightly.

ALLERGIES & SENSITIVITIES

Always read ingredients carefully.

Single protein treats suit sensitive digestion best.
Introduce new treats slowly.
Stop feeding if stools loosen or itching increases.
